Collaboration between Grupa Azoty and the Maritime University of Szczecin for the development of the Police Port

Joint research and development initiatives aimed at expanding the Police Port are the primary objectives of the agreement signed between Grupa Azoty Police, the Management Board of the Maritime Port of Police, and the Maritime University of Szczecin. The collaboration will leverage the university’s scientific expertise and the capabilities of the Police-based company, with a particular focus on initiatives within port areas.

"Grupa Azoty Police recognizes the significant benefits of business and academia working together. We have been collaborating with the Maritime University for many years, primarily in training engineering and technical staff in a dedicated program. Now, considering the dynamic development of our port, we are expanding this cooperation to include further joint research initiatives. The university possesses the know-how, numerous research results, and scientific studies that will enable us to efficiently implement planned and new investments, enhancing the potential of our logistics infrastructure at the port," said Andrzej Dawidowski, Vice President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A. and President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty Police.

The Center for Operation of Floating Objects, a flagship project of the Maritime University of Szczecin, plays a crucial role in this partnership. The center features specialized laboratory facilities conducting research on cutting-edge technologies in various sectors of the maritime industry. With access to underwater robots and professional drones, the center carries out hydrographic and geodetic research, available only to a select few research institutions in the country.

"By signing the agreement with Grupa Azoty and the Police Port, we are excited to begin cooperation in a new area aimed at strengthening innovation and industrial and scientific development in the region. The Center for Operation of Floating Objects at the Maritime University of Szczecin is eager to support its partners in executing ambitious research and development projects. The combination of academic knowledge with practical solutions will help us meet future challenges. This partnership also presents an opportunity for young engineers graduating from our university to grow within the country’s top companies. The collaboration between academia and business, which our university has long prioritized, brings undeniable benefits to both parties," said DSc Eng. Capt. Wojciech Ślączka, professor at the Maritime University and Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

The expertise of the Maritime University’s academic staff and the technological resources of the Center for Operation of Floating Objects provide a valuable foundation for initiatives related to the expansion of the port terminal, approach channels, and logistics centers in Police.

"Collaboration with universities is key to the development of modern logistics in the maritime economy. Our goal is to establish strong foundations for innovation and efficiency in logistics processes. As the port’s management board, we are fully committed to fostering this cooperation, understanding that only through the synergy of science and practice can we achieve ambitious goals that will enhance our port’s competitiveness," said Dariusz Budzik, President of the Management Board of the Maritime Port of Police.

The signed agreement marks another step for Grupa Azoty Police in developing its port areas, which hold substantial business potential for the entire capital group. Numerous activities focused on the port, including the ongoing expansion of railway infrastructure to improve land and sea access, will further enhance the attractiveness of these areas for new investors.

Logistics areas are playing an increasingly significant role within Grupa Azoty. Infrastructure that was previously used primarily for internal purposes within the capital group is now becoming a valuable business asset, attracting external entities. Notably, in recent days, the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A. passed a resolution adopting a strategic concept for integrating logistics operations. In the next phase, a dedicated team will work on defining the target integration model, considering potential centralization options in the logistics sector.
