NITRO-CHEM and Grupa Azoty strengthen cooperation in the production of high-energy materials

NITRO-CHEM S.A. and PROZAP Sp. z o.o. (a company within Grupa Azoty’s capital structure) have signed an agreement for the development of design documentation for a new installation dedicated to the production of high-energy explosive materials, including RDX (hexogen) and, alternatively, HMX (octogen). The documentation prepared by PROZAP will form the basis for the implementation of the investment at NITRO-CHEM S.A.’s facilities.

This is another step following the provisions of the letter of intent signed earlier this year between NITRO-CHEM S.A. and Grupa Azoty, under which both parties are strengthening their joint capabilities in the design and construction of production installations for explosive materials. The project is of strategic importance for the development of the national defence industry and for reinforcing NITRO-CHEM S.A.’s position as a global leader in the production of high-quality high-energy explosives.

The investment will increase the plant’s production capacity and enhance technological flexibility, enabling simultaneous production of RDX, HMX, and the intermediates necessary for their manufacture. The new installation responds to the growing demand from the defence industry and customers for high-energy explosive materials of the highest quality parameters.

‘In line with our strategy, we will continue to develop the segment of chemical materials for defence both based on our own production capabilities and through partnership models, delivering solutions that require a high level of engineering expertise,’ comments Dr. Eng. Paweł Bielski, Vice President of Grupa Azoty. ‘Our cooperation reflects the idea of local content — the participation of domestic entities in investment projects — and contributes to strengthening independence and supply-chain security in the defence sector.’

‘The agreement signed today is an important milestone in developing our technological capabilities and production capacity. Thanks to collaboration with PROZAP and the experience of Grupa Azoty, we will accelerate design work and build a solid foundation for the installation that will strengthen NITRO-CHEM’s position as a trusted supplier for the defence sector at home and abroad,’ says Arkadiusz Miszuk, President of the Management Board of NITRO-CHEM S.A.

Karol Przybyszewski, Member of the Management Board of NITRO-CHEM S.A., adds: ‘Cooperation with PROZAP — a company with extensive experience in designing installations for the chemical and defence industries — gives us full confidence that the documentation will be prepared with the highest care and in line with all safety requirements. This is a key step on the path to constructing an installation of strategic importance for the development of Poland’s defence potential.’

Completion of the design stage will allow preparations for construction to begin. The project responds to increased market demand for high-energy materials and contributes to strengthening the country’s defence capacity. It will also reinforce NITRO-CHEM S.A.’s position as one of the leading producers of explosives on international markets.
