Tarnów District Heat Supplier increases heat offtake from Grupa Azoty to 30 MW

Grupa Azoty S.A. and Tarnów District Heat Supplier (Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej S.A.; “MPEC”) have inked an agreement that will significantly increase the supply of heat in heating water from Grupa Azoty S.A. to MPEC from October 1st 2022.

The agreement will enhance the security of heat supply to Tarnów residents.

To ensure the stability of heat supplies, Grupa Azoty has already carried out a range of capital projects, primarily focusing on redesigning and upgrading the heat transmission networks. In the near future, additional investments will be made by both Grupa Azoty and MPEC to facilitate the performance of the agreement.

The agreement confirms Grupa Azoty's credibility as a reliable business partner, capable of assuring continuity and quality of heat supply. Notably, it also aligns with the objectives of the European Green Deal, as a portion of the energy will originate from waste heat generated by the Company’s industrial processes, says Tomasz Hinc, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.

The selling price of heat will be approved by the independent Energy Regulatory Office. This will guarantee that the cost of heat production and transmission does not exceed a reasonable level for consumers.

I am pleased that together with MPEC, we have negotiated an agreement that will enhance the energy security of Tarnów residents. I am confident that the investments required to perform it will yield a quick return, comments Zbigniew Paprocki, Member of the Management Board and CEO of Grupa Azoty S.A.

Our collaboration with Grupa Azoty marks the commencement of the next phase of MPEC’s activities aimed at ensuring an efficient heating system in Tarnów, protecting the environment, and mitigating global warming,” says Tadeusz Sieńczak, Vice President of the Management Board and Chief Technology Officer of MPEC.

The agreement solidifies the strong relations between MPEC and Grupa Azoty and will lead to a reduction in coal consumption, which in turn will improve the air quality for the residents of the city and the region,” stresses Piotr Augustyński, President of the Management Board of MPEC.
