Grupa Azoty Compounding, in collaboration with Forum by Nowy Styl, has successfully completed a project that outfitted the Eintracht Frankfurt stadium with 40,000 eco-friendly chairs. This initiative required Grupa Azoty Compounding to develop a specialized granulate, composed of over 80% recycled materials. This project allowed the Grupa Azoty Capital Group to enhance its portfolio with high-quality, eco-friendly recycled materials. The new chairs will be used by fans during the upcoming European Championships which kick off in Germany in June.
Two Polish companies played pivotal roles in this project. Forum by Nowy Styl had approached Grupa Azoty Compounding to develop the necessary granulate. Besides the primary component, Tarnamid PIR (PA 6), the stadium chairs were enhanced with flame retardants and UV stabilizers. Using recycled materials resulted in a completely new blend, requiring the realignment of all the elements to maintain the highest product quality.
"This project marks a significant milestone in expanding our product portfolio. With our skilled technical team and access to a specialized laboratory, we developed granulate comprising over 80% of recycled materials. Grupa Azoty Compounding not only offers hundreds of standard varieties but also customizes materials for specific applications, or creates bespoke products per customer requirements. By launching these products, we underscore our commitment to ecological solutions, providing safe and practical products that align with Grupa Azoty’s strategy and meet customer expectations," says Dariusz Cholewa, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty Compounding.
The idea to replace the chairs originated from a desire to match the colors of the Frankfurt club while incorporating an ecological perspective.
"The decision to replace the chairs was emotional; we wanted to demonstrate that the stadium belongs to the club and its fans. Nevertheless, we are an environmentally conscious organization. The club takes environmental protection seriously, so we couldn't just discard perfectly good chairs. We wanted to proceed sustainably. The new chairs had to have a neutral carbon footprint, which is why we required them to be made of at least 80% recycled materials," said Daniel Garcia, Director of Technology and Events at Eintracht Frankfurt.
