The joint campaign of Grupa Azoty S.A. and the Mościce Housing Estate Council on the occasion of the World Earth Day has come to an end. The ‘I Collect and Sort’ event, with its motto ‘You can do more than you think,’ brought together about 700 residents of Tarnów, including Grupa Azoty employees, pre-school and school children. They collected garbage that weighed approximately 1240 kg.
The clean-up event, whose aim was to draw public attention to the problem of proper sorting of waste, was opened by Zbigniew Paprocki, Member of the Management Board and CEO of Grupa Azoty S.A., in front of the Mościce Arts Centre.
The organizers focused on responsibility for our choices in the context of care for the environment. That is why they chose the phrase ‘You can do more than you think’ as the event’s motto. The Grupa Azoty Group, manufacturer of plastics, among other things, emphasises the importance of proper handling of recyclable materials. During the event, the organisers cited various data, for example that one plastic bottle takes about 500 years to decompose, while an aluminium can take 200 to 400 years. Interestingly, aluminium cans can be recycled an infinite number of times. Recycling 1 tonne of aluminium saves 4 tonnes of ore and 700 kilograms of crude oil[1].
“At the Grupa Azoty Group, we attach great importance to activities focused on environmental protection. In line with our strategy, we are consistently developing our portfolio of green products and technologies, including in the area of plastics. For example, we can already offer products that meet ISCC Plus certification requirements, that is plastics made entirely from recycled waste. The ‘I Collect and Sort’ event is another of our initiatives focused on care for the environment – in this case the immediate environment of our plants,” says Zbigniew Paprocki, Member of the Management Board and CEO, Grupa Azoty S.A.
The event was also participated in by Tegro Dystrybucja and Dantar,
plastics processing companies which provided plastic gloves and bags for people
who joined the clean-up. During the finale of the event, held at the Grupa
Azoty Group’s building (the Kwiatkowski Villa) in Tarnów, commemorative
diplomas were presented to the children and teenagers who took part in the
campaign. The Grupa Azoty Group also handed in small eco gifts.
